The Choral Artists of Michigan are Made In Michigan

The Choral Artists of Michigan are pleased to present Made In Michigan in May 2021. The CAM presents composers, singers, and collaborators that are based in our beautiful Great Lakes State: Brazeal Dennard, Stacey Gibbs, Sean Ivory, and other great composers. In addition, we will enjoy a world premiere performance from Davison, Michigan-based composer, Molly Ijames. We are excited to present music borne of the experiences of our own inspiring performing artists. We are truly Made In Michigan.

Brazeal Dennard was a Detroit-based composer, conductor, singer, and music educator. He retired from the Detroit Public Schools in 1989. His Brazeal Dennard Chorale often performed spirituals, including the performance of his own arrangements. Stacey Gibbs is also a Detroit-based composer and educator. His credits include international performances at conferences, workshops, and festivals. The CAM is pleased to present exciting interpretations of these famous spirituals. Sean Ivory’s John the Revelator is a crowd-pleasing, toe-tapping gem from the Grand Rapids-based composer, educator, and conductor. Finally, Molly Ijames composed a new work for our choral festival, so the CAM premieres a first performance of her beautiful offering.

The CAM also collaborates with an invited youth chorus for our Made In Michigan choral festival. Our educational outreach includes recording the masterworks and inspiring the next generation of choral music lovers.

General admission to Made In Michigan is $10. For ticket information, email jwatson055@gmail.com, or visit our Facebook page, @choralartistsofmichigan. Doors open one half hour ahead, and seating is on a first come, first served basis.

The CAM Chamber Singers are comprised of local vocal music artists that sing professionally throughout the communities of Metro Detroit; members are drawn from the opera choristers and paid choral scholars. This ensemble performs choral masterworks and premieres new works by living composers. The Community Chorus is a choral ensemble open to community members that are passionate about the choral art. The choir enrolls a diverse membership, and they perform varied works. The combined choirs are under the direction of Dr. Jim Watson, Artistic Director, with piano accompaniment by Hannah Watson. The CAM is served by volunteer board members, including the Artistic Director, Managing Director, and Treasurer.
